Certified Organic Alta-Swede Mammoth Red Clover

Certified Organic

Certified Organic Alta-Swede Mammoth Red Clover is a tall, quick growing single cut clover. Alta-Swede is taller and coarser than Medium Red Clover and is about 2 weeks later in maturity. It is considered a single cut perennial due to its slow regrowth; thus, it is used primarily as a green manure crop. Alta-Swede is very winter-hardy and does well in most soils and growing conditions.

Organic Alta Swede Mammoth Red Clover is pre-inoculated with an OMRI listed inoculation for improved establishment and growth.
Inoculation is recommended when planting legumes.

Establishment

Plant at 1/4″ depth. An ideal soil bed is moist, fertile and firm. A soil test is recommended for proper plant establishment and growth. Mammoth Red clovers can be planted, broadcast or frost-seeded successfully.

Management

When using as a green manure crop, till under when in the flowering stage. Alta-Swede Mammoth Red clover will fix up to 80-110 lbs N/Acre. Alta-Swede has a long tap root and can loosen soils and mine phosphorus and other nutrients from deep within soil. Alta-Swede can be planted in the spring or fall and grow in more acid soil (pH 5.0-6.0) than other clovers if lime is applied at the time of seeding. Alta-Swede Mammoth Red Clover averages 248,000 seeds per lb.
